the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Colombia released new results from the study of ANDeffectiveness of vaccines against covid-19 in Colombia - Cohort Hope, in which it was shown that unvaccinated people have a 4 to 9 times higher risk of dying from Sars-Cov2 compared to people vaccinated with a complete schedule with the same sociodemographic profile. Already in 2021, a first bulletin had been published presenting the first estimates of the effectiveness of vaccines in adults aged 60 years and over.
Julián Fernández, director of Epidemiology and Demography explained that "Recognizing the need for the Esperanza Cohort to generate valuable information in a more continuous manner, the Ministry of Health now presents a technical report format, which generates this information by epidemiological week, such that for each week it is possible to identify the differences in hospitalization and death rates between vaccinated and unvaccinated, from a dynamic cohort perspective.”
The estimates of the study are of value in public health and the conclusions coincide with the international literature and other studies carried out by various scientific institutions regarding the effectiveness of vaccines.
